That Time I Was at WDW for New Year’s

Hiya. I just got back from eight days with my family, my boyfriend’s family and some demanding Midwest-dwelling friends, and I’m not going to say I was completely stress-free the entire time. BECAUSE I WASN’T. Now I’m scrambling to unpack, find places in my tiny-ass Brooklyn apartment for the embarrassment of presents that I got, GO RUNNING BECAUSE I HAVE A GODDAMN MARATHON IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS, make some semblance of resolutions (I don’t, like, write things down and beat myself up over things after six weeks, but I like to have some goals to work toward), go have a fun and festive New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and not be a boring turd, and get ready for five full business days of work before my boyfriend and I take off for Walt Disney World. Yeeeee.

Since it is, of course, New Year’s Eve, I am of course reminded of the time I went to WDW with my boyfriend, parents and sister over this same holiday. We were concerned about crowds, of course, so we opted to avoid the parks we assumed would be most crowded — Magic Kingdom and EPCOT — and stuck to Hollywood Studios. Which, believe you me, was a good plan. There were certainly crowds, but nothing to capacity at all.

We had a 9 p.m. ADR at the ’50s Prime Time Café and had to wait almost half an hour after we checked in to be seated, so we got out just before 11. Even though there was just an hour to go before midnight, my parents and sister were dead tired from having me drag them around all day and went back to Pop Century. Marcus and I snagged another ride on the Tower of Terror — again, the crowds were nothing like what MK was experiencing, there was talk among guests about the Kingdom being at capacity — and got off to find a full-blown stupid-ass dance party in front of the stupid-ass sorcerer’s hat. We’re not big on dancing or shitty pop tunes (though I do make some exceptions for especially catchy ones while I’m running), so we decided to go back to our separate room at Pop as well.

How did I ring in 2012? Wearing plastic hats we acquired at DHS and watching fireworks from our balcony at Pop, drinking Bud Light Lime. NO REGRETS. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Happy New Year
